Our Background

Horizon of Hope was founded in 2016 in a small slum called Bandani in Kisumu county opposite Kisumu international airport. The project was founded by Oscar Ochieng Akello with an aim of providing education scholarships to less fortunate kids within Bandani slums especially the street urchins who dropped out of school due to family problems or financial challenges that pushed that particular kid to the streets. Bandani slums is a neighbouring big slum known as Obunga hence shares the same problems that need the same attention and solutions.
Founder having experienced life challenges at young age and learnt through lack of basic needs and other life hardships got compelled to establish this project as a solution because this made him realize that street urchins are not in the streets as a wish but to look for survival and a place to call home running away from judgmental,harsh and mean society.
Obunga and Bandani slums taking a lead in high crime rate and other social vices such as rape and drug substance abuse as a result of school dropouts,Oscar found it good to establish a centre within Bandani slums for easier accessibility.
Horizon of Hope does not only support the street urchins but also kids from very poor families and orphans regardless of the tribe,gender or race. The HOH just came through to help in problem solving by creating hope in lives of the less fortunate since education is the best tool to use when it comes to eradication of poverty.
Our vision and mission is to transform slums and make young people independent and productive hence a healthier and safer community.
Horizon of Hope does not only support children but even young women empowerment through vocational training on tailoring,garment making,beadwork and other artworks such as painting and weaving.More so survivors of domestic violence.
Our desire is to have a healthier and safe community where everyone counts and matters regardless of the background,gender, race or the social status. We bring back lost hope,we provide a ground where an individual gets an opportunity to see life wider. To this far we have reached out to a number of lives that can comfortably and confidently testify how HOH transformations they have experienced ever since encountered with HOH. We look forward to reach many and bring them on board in this worthy course and partner with other organisations that have similar visions
